MAINE BOATING LAWS AND REGULATIONS

Brandy Pond: Naples, Cumberland Cty - Personal watercraft prohibited between sunset and 9:00 am and may not be operated without a visible decal affixed to the personal watercraft identifying the rental agent.

Holt Pond: Naples, Bridgton, Cumberland Cty - Motorboats with more than 10 horsepower prohibited.

Long Lake: Naples, Bridgton, Harrison, Cumberland Cty - Personal watercraft may not be operated without a visible decal affixed to the personal watercraft identifying the rental agent.

Trickey Pond: Naples, Cumberland Cty - No PWC.

NAPLES MOORING INFORMATION

• According to State Statute, only one mooring is allowed per lot with at least 50’ of owned, direct water frontage, unless a mooring/mooring field has been assigned to an Association or Campground via a Right of Way and approved by the local Harbor Master.
• Applications (form far below) for a new mooring permit should be submitted to the Harbor Master's Assistant. The cost to apply for a new mooring permit is $65 (2024). Land ownership, map, lot, water frontage amount or ROW must be verified.
• Applications (form far below) to renew a mooring permit should be mailed to the Town Clerk. The cost to renew a mooring permit is $40 (2024).
• Mooring permits must be renewed annually before July 15^th.
• If a mooring is not renewed on time, the late fee will be $25. Fees accrue.
• Mooring installation shall be the responsibility of the property owner with the placement location approved by the Harbor Master.
• Moorings must comply with all specifications and permits required by the Town and State of Maine.
• All mooring anchors shall be made of stone, granite, cured reinforced concrete, or mushroom anchor.
• Mooring floats/buoys must be white in color with a blue horizontal stripe as required by State Law.
• Moorings/anchors must be inspected every three (3) years by a certified mooring inspection diver.
• No mooring shall be placed outside the area of the water safety zone, specifically 200’ from any shore or one third the distance to the opposite shore, whichever is less, or in areas that will create a hazard to watercraft navigation. If special circumstances exist, the placement will be determined by the Harbor Master.
• Moorings shall be placed “center property” as far away from an abutter’s property/shoreline as possible, in accordance with the Harbor Master’s direction. In some instances, moorings may be placed within the abutter’s property. It is the intent that all parties involved will agree to the placement, but in some cases the final placement location will be determined by the Harbor Master and will be the final ruling.
• Failure to move a mooring placement or remove a mooring at the order of the Harbor Master is a violation of the Mooring Regulations.
• In the event of failure to comply with the Harbor Master’s instructions, the improperly placed mooring will be moved/removed at the owner’s expense.
• Mooring floats/buoys must be removed no later than December 1^st annually. Failure to remove a mooring by December 1^st is a violation of Town Ordinance and will be subject to fines and fees. Mooring floats/buoys may be returned to placement when we have passed Spring thaw.
